Learner Profile, Eligibility Criteria and Assessment Requirements
This is a 4-day programme.
Learner Profile
Participants will typically be either company employees or members of the public with an interest in Health and Safety Management and in particular the area of employee representation. The programme will be interactive in nature and will focus on ensuring that participants gain a good understanding and knowledge of the role and responsibilities relating to safety representation in the workplace. Learners will be required to become involved in group discussion on selected health and safety topics, designed to simulate likely workplace scenarios where opinions on health and safety may differ and where “common ground” needs to be found between employer and employee. Entrants will gain an understanding of key legal health and safety principles and develop basic skills in both risk assessment of workplace tasks and incident and accident reporting.
Eligibility Criteria
- Participants will be over 18 years of age prior to course commencement date.
- Participants will require a good level of English, both oral and written. The minimum standard required of personnel for whom English may not be their first language is set at level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Evidence of competence and certification to this standard will be demonstrated by means the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
- There is currently no specific requirement for participants to have completed a previous programme of training at a similar or lower level on the NFQ.
Assessment
Participants, as part of programme assessment, will be required to demonstrate a good ability to discuss, individually and as part of a group, a specific work based topic that relates to employee working conditions and the role of effective representation and negotiation.
There will be a short written test of knowledge as well as a requirement for participants to complete a work-based Risk Assessment Assignment - based on a specific assignment brief and approved templates that will be provided in advance.

- Understand the importance of effective communication on health and safety issues

Assessment: Participants will be assessed by means of the following methods:
Presentation (Skills Demonstration) – 20%
Written Examination - 30%
Post Course Risk Assessment Assignment (Project) – 50%
Certification: Successful Candidates will receive the QQI Level 5 Award through the normal QQI submission process, subject to external authentication.

Support for Learners: Anderlift staff will provide a high level of course mentoring to interested candidates and will provide specific guidance in relation to the assessment process.
All participants will be issued with a comprehensive Learner Handbook on commencement of each programme.

Please note that all courses will be conducted contingent upon funding being received and achieving a sufficient number of enrolled learners. If the minimum enrolment threshold is not met, the course may be postponed or cancelled. Enrolled learners will be notified of any changes in a timely manner.
Training Cancellation Policy
Training courses which are cancelled over 7 days in advance of scheduled training date shall incur no cancellation fee. Training courses which are cancelled within 7 days of scheduled training date shall incur a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the cost. Registrants who give less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend training will be charged 100% of the full fee.
